The Business Mindset Every Successful Travel Advisor Needs with The Unstoppable Sisters – Episode 04
Estimated Reading Time: 7 minutes
The importance of mindset in business isn’t just some fluffy concept… it’s literally the foundation that determines whether you’ll thrive or just survive as a business owner.
I’ve watched so many talented travel advisors struggle not because they lack skills, but because their mindset was holding them back.
They get stuck in employee thinking instead of embracing their role as a business owner.
I had an amazing chat with the dynamic sister duo Logan Reed and Anna Mumaw, also known as the Unstoppable Sisters, who are incredible business coaches for entrepreneurs.
We dove deep into their trifecta of heartset, mindset, and skillset.
I’ve previously worked with Logan and Anna in their small group program, Unstoppable U, which really set me on a great foundation when I had recently quit my full-time job and dove headfirst into being a full-time entrepreneur.
Mindset was especially important at that point because I was going to be solely relying on my businesses for income…talk about pressure!

Where the Importance of Mindset in Business Really Begins
Logan breaks down heartset in the most beautiful way: “Heartset is really, your truth, your knowing, what your heart desires.”
They really stress how important it is to connect with your heart’s desires and embrace your heartset as a powerful source of determination and resilience.
This helps entrepreneurs overcome challenges and stay grounded when everyone else has opinions about what you should be doing.
I’ve noticed this so much in myself during my transition from employee to entrepreneur.
My heartset really speaks to me now.
I know instantly when an opportunity presents itself whether it’s a good fit because I have this instinctual gut reaction.
If something is pitched to me and my heart sings, I go for it immediately.
If something is pitched to me and I take a while to decide or don’t take any action, I know that’s my gut telling me the opportunity isn’t for me.
I think heartset is something the business owner in us all forgets.
We know and understand why mindset is important in business because of obvious reasons, but we so rarely rely on that inner knowing, that inner feeling of “is this something that actually feels right?”
Is this something that my heart desires and is in alignment with my own personal goals, values, and dreams, or am I just doing this because someone else told me to?
Perfect example- my travel agency niche is cruise ship retreats.
I’ve been having people say, “Well, why don’t you pivot to land retreats or something different?”
And I just go back to “because I don’t wanna.”
It’s that simple, but took quite a lot of practice to feel comfortable.

Nurturing a Business Mindset That Actually Works
“The mindset connection to the heartset is so important because you have to believe. You have to know that your heart is driving you in the right direction. And will get you through the times when people are saying, ‘oh, you’ll never get to do that; you’ll never make it,'” Anna shared, and this hit me hard.
Just like you train your physical muscles for strength, you have to train your inner muscles for strength and fortitude.
The tenacity I have today in my heartset, mindset, and skillset are the result of a lot of work I’ve put in over the past couple of years to practice thinking, feeling, and doing things a certain way.
And guess what… the practice never ends.
There will always be naysayers or impostor syndrome creeping in, questioning who you are and your abilities.
To more easily get over those times, you’ve got to keep the mindset work going.
Anna and Logan also talk about how your mindset shapes how you approach challenges and opportunities.
They broke down the need to challenge self-limiting beliefs and foster a growth-oriented business mindset that helps you stay ahead of the game and roll with the punches.
So instead of telling yourself you could never do X or work with Y, tell yourself that you WILL do these things, and a plan will start working itself out in your mind.
The Unstoppable Sisters also encourage ditching the idea that there’s only one path to success, which could not be more accurate.
I wish we talked more about how all the different strategies and tactics do work and can work for you, but the important thing here is– do they fit in your current alignment and capacity?
They suggest looking inward and believing in yourself as key ingredients for making travel businesses thrive and come up with fresh ideas.
The Ripple Effect: Why Your Small Business Matters More Than You Think
“We have a tool that we use in our online program called ‘the ripple effect’, [and it] basically shows you why what you do matters not just to you, but to the people around you in your community and ultimately to the world. And when you realize the impact that you have on everyone around you and people who don’t even know you, it will power you through. As you’re creating a business, you’ll realize this business actually matters more than just me and more than just the immediate client. It matters to the world. And that’s a really great weekly check-in to do that will keep people in motion and feeling empowered,” Anna explained.
I LOVE this tool because it really busts the traditional types of entrepreneurial mindset.
It goes far beyond having a growth mindset or a fixed mindset.
It speaks to how your small business can truly touch the world by that one ripple.
Thinking about it this way might seem a bit daunting, but I believe it could also lead to exponential growth in business.
As I told them during our chat: “We’re not just selling travel. We’re changing the world on a larger scale.”
What would you do differently if you knew the impact of your travel business was affecting the world?
IS affecting, more like it.
“Travel seems huge that way. Travel seems like one of the most impactful things at every level. You’re affecting the people who are traveling, the people who are traveling with them, the places they’re going. You just have an enormous impact,” Anna shared.
I also think about it in the frame that I cannot give up.
One of my favorite business mindset quotes comes from the great Yoda: “Do or do not; there is no try.”
When you really think about it, you don’t have the same vigor for trying as you do for doing.
Read that line again 🙂
I can try to sell 50 cruises this year – OR – I WILL sell 50 cruises this year.
While yes, I know there’s value in trying, do you see the magnitude of doing?
I see an action plan coming to fruition because I said I was going to do something, and I take that pretty seriously.
Not only did I say it, I felt it, tying in the heartset and mindset.
HOW I will do it is where skillset comes in.
Building Your Skillset: How to Turn Business Dreams into Profitable Action
This chat reminded me how important having the right skills is for turning your inner drive into real-world results.
Something I’d also recommend is diving into your Clifton Strengths – something we’ll be exploring in a future episode.
Knowing what you’re great at and what you enjoy can be so practical when taking skillset into mind.
“The skillset is the habits, structures, and support that you actually put into motion day-to-day, and, your heartset gets you to where you understand why you can have this mindset that it’s possible and needs to be done,” Anna explained perfectly.
Logan and Anna broke down how practical routines, setups, and having a support network can help turn your dreams into something you can actually do.
They stressed the need for making solid plans and using what you’re already good at to make things happen.
They gave some amazing tips on how travel entrepreneurs can turn ideas into action:
- Do a brain dump on paper to free up your mind
- Post those brain dumps to the fridge or somewhere you’ll often see them
- Take action on the ones that really speak to you
“It’s really marrying the soft part of the work, like the big why and what feels good and who I want to be in the world and all of that, and the practicality of, okay, now let’s write it down. Let’s get it out of your mind and onto paper so you can look at it and connect with it in a different way,” Logan shared.
For me, this means:
- Heartset: I want to do this
- Mindset: I can do this
- Skillset: This is how I will do this
That last line makes me think about the systems, processes, and workflows we need to incorporate in our travel businesses to make things happen.
It’s all fine and dandy to dream and believe, but if we don’t take action with the skills we have or the knowledge to outsource certain tasks, that desire will never come to fruition.
So once you know what you’d like to accomplish, break down the steps required and write a business plan that includes who will be responsible for what, plus target deadlines.
Using Affirmations and Positive Thinking That Actually Works
Affirmations have been HUGE for me in terms of getting the right mindset for business success.
Simply stated, affirmations are positive statements you say in the present tense so you can visualize it instead of solely dreaming it.
Talking about it as if you already have it also helps you get into the right mindset needed to propel you into taking action to get it.
Logan and Anna encourage boosting your confidence by remembering how awesome you are, how determined you’ve been, and how you’ve bounced back from tough times before.
They’re big on repeating positive sayings that remind you how travel can change lives, how your hard work matters, and how your contributions make a big difference.
Our combined goal is to build a feeling of motivation, purpose, and togetherness in the travel industry.
“[If you’re using the tool, you see where the mantra is true]. And using that as your affirmation, your brain is going to accept it more easily and let it in and have it be a new way of being and looking at the world that [is] shifting that other mindset,” Logan explained.
Logan lists some affirmations to try or at least use as examples for your own: “My work changes lives, or I am here to change lives, or when I’m happy, I’m magnetic.”
Improving positive business talk through affirmations is something I’m continually working on.
A book that’s helped me is “The Wealthy Spirit” by Chellie Campbell.
Reading a money mindset story every day helps put my mind in the right spirit from the beginning.
The Power of Authentic Marketing: How Genuine Excitement Attracts Customers
“If you’re having fun, that’s magnetic. People want to know more. People want to be around you. People want to hear what you’re so excited about. So being genuinely excited is, I think, the secret ingredient.” Logan.
This is so true!
Think about it – when you’re genuinely excited about your travel business, that energy is contagious.
People can feel it through your marketing, your conversations, your social media presence.
That’s way more powerful than any sales technique or marketing strategy.
I’ve seen this play out in my own business so many times.
When I’m genuinely pumped about a cruise retreat I’m planning, that excitement comes through in everything I do.
My emails sound different, my social media posts have more energy, and even my client calls feel more dynamic.
People pick up on that authentic enthusiasm immediately.
The opposite is also true.
You know when someone’s just going through the motions, right?
When a travel advisor sounds bored or detached when talking about a destination that’s a total turnoff to them.
But when someone lights up talking about their specialty or their latest trip discovery?
That’s when people lean in and want to know more.
You can’t fake this kind of excitement.
It has to come from a genuine place, which is why that heartset work is so important.
When you’re aligned with what truly excites you in your travel business – whether that’s planning destination weddings, adventure travel, or luxury escapes – that authentic passion becomes your most powerful marketing tool.
This is why I always tell travel entrepreneurs to follow what genuinely excites them, not what they think they should be doing or what someone else says is profitable.
When you’re doing work that lights you up, that energy becomes magnetic in ways no amount of perfect copy or slick marketing materials can replicate.
“Travel matters. Travel is really important, and we’re gonna get back there,” Anna shared, and I couldn’t agree more.
I hope this episode has shown you not just the importance of mindset in business, but also given you some practical tips on how to build a successful business through your heartset and skillset too.
A business mindset is something you have to continually work on and practice until it becomes just the way you are and do things.
Having the right attitude, thinking, and skills to handle whatever comes your way and make things happen are especially important in the travel industry.
The sum of each travel company is greater than the individual parts, and we can each uplift each other by continuing to stay positive and innovative.
Remember, as business owners in this incredible industry, we’re not just planning trips, but changing lives, creating memories, and yes, changing the world one traveler at a time.
Whether you’re looking to develop your entrepreneurial mindset or wanting to understand why mindset is important for your success, start with your heartset, strengthen your mindset, and build the skillset to make it all happen.
